On December 29, 2021, the “2nd Qiushi（Seeking Truth）” International Forum of Advanced Photonics was successfully held in Building No. 3 440, Yuquan Campus, Zhejiang University. This forum is sponsored by the College of Optical Science and Engineering (COSE) and undertaken by the International Research Center for Advanced Photonics, 15 outstanding overseas Chinese young scholars in optics gave talks on integrated photonics, biophotonics, laser optics, etc.. In addition, Prof. Jianrong Qiu and Prof. Rengmao Wu in COSE were invited to give keynote talks at the forum.
Prof. Daoxin Dai, dean of COSE, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony, welcoming the young scholars to attend the forum, introducing the basic situation of COSE in detail, and wishing the forum a complete success. Later, Dr. Kaiyuan Yao from Columbia University, USA; Dr. Xun Guan from Universite Laval, Canada; Dr. Meng Zhang from Georgia Institute of Technology, USA; Dr. Yuzhe Xiao from University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA; Dr. Ruoming Peng from University of Washington, USA; Dr. Runzhou Zhang from University of Southern California, USA; Dr. Xiang Xi from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, China; Dr. Zunyue Zhang from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, China; Dr. Fuchuan Lei from Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden; Dr. Yunfeng Nie from Vrije Universiteit Brussels, Belgium; Dr. Yazhou Wang from Technical University of Denmark, Denmark; Dr. Lin Yang from Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt, Germany; Dr. Xuesong Li from National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering, USA; Dr. Juanjuan Lu from Yale University, USA, and Dr. Qingkun Liu from Cornell University, USA gave an excellent speech in turn, and the onsite audience and the online speaker had lively discussions. Finally, Prof. Zhiyi Liu, chairman of the young Teachers Association of COSE, presided over the closing ceremony. He thanked the young scholars for their active participation and concluded with the concept of "concentration, persistence, and collaboration" mentioned in Prof. Jianrong Qiu's talk. He hoped that there would be more opportunities for communication and cooperation with young scholars in the future.
In recent years, accelerating the introduction of overseas talents is one of the main measures of the strategy of strengthening universities with talents. The successful convening of this forum provides an effective platform for introducing talents in our college. Meanwhile, it provides an opportunity for Chinese scholars living abroad to show themselves, increases the exchange with domestic, and provides an effective way for young scholars to return to China.
