On December 10th, The 6th (2021) West-Lake International Photonics Symposium, sponsored by the College of Optical Science and Engineering (COSE) and State Key Laboratory of Modern Optical Instrumentation, was successfully held in Haining International Campus of Zhejiang University. This symposium organized by the Joint International Research Laboratory of Photonics (JIRLOP) and the International Joint Research Center for Optoelectronic Technology, co-organized by the International Research Center for Advanced Photonics, in the way of "online as the main, onsite as the auxiliary". Ten top experts in the field of optics and photonics from Russia, South Korea, Singapore, Australia, and China gave keynote talks. More than 3,000 domestic and foreign counterparts attended the symposium. This symposium conducted in-depth discussions on the frontiers of photonics such as nanophotonics, biomedical photonics, topological photonics, integrated photonics, and laser precision manufacturing, etc., built a bridge for the exchange of experts at home and abroad in the field of optics and optoelectronics, and promoted the international academic exchange.
Prof. Daoxin Dai, Dean of COSE, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony, introducing the basic situation of COSE and related information of this symposium, expressing heartfelt thanks to the experts and representatives who have given strong support, and wishing the symposium a great success. Then, Prof. Chengwei Qiu from National University of Singapore, Prof. Xiaocong Yuan from Shenzhen University, Prof. Dayong Jin from University of Technology, Sydney, Prof. Juyoung Yoon from Ewha Womans University, Prof. Hon Ki Tsang from Chinese University of Hong Kong, Prof. Zhigang Chen from Nankai University, Prof. Hongbo Sun from Tsinghua University, Prof Jiang Tang from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Prof. Valery V. Tuchin from Saratov State University, Russia and Prof. Limin Tong from Zhejiang University gave wonderful speeches in turn. Online and onsite audiences spoke enthusiastically, pushing the atmosphere of the symposium to a climax again and again. Finally, Jun Qian, professor of COSE and deputy director of the International Research Center for Advanced Photonics, delivered a closing speech and expressed his expectation for the next West-Lake Photonics Symposium.
West-Lake International Photonics Symposium aims to broaden vision, enlighten talents, and provide a high-level academic exchange platform for experts, scholars and young talents in optoelectronic science and technology and related fields to discuss the latest advances in optics and photonics. At the same time, it has the potential to provide innovative solutions to major challenges and sustainable development in education, energy, agriculture, health and sanitation.
